Coromandel város és a 309-es út / Coromandel Town & The 309 Road
A tervezettnél később indultam, mert reggel kicsit még a neten lógtam és bújtam a híreket a cunamival kapcsolatosan. Kicsit aggasztott a hír és a figyelmeztetés, de aztán mégiscsak úgy döntöttem, hogy útnak indulok, mert a Coromandel félsziget számomra biztonságosnak tűnt.
Első szállásom Coromandel városban volt, ahol megint nehézségeim akadtak a szállásfoglalással, mert azon a hétvégén a városban motoros találkozó volt. Amúgy kedves kis hely, de valahogy olyan érzésem volt, mintha egy modern western filmnek a szereplője lettem volna. Inkább hívnám egy kisebb falunak, mint városnak… A fő utcáról csak pár aprócska út ágazott le, de minden megtalálható volt, ami szükséges volt: posta, élelmiszerüzlet, rendőrség, tűzoltóság, iskola, éttermek, pubok, i-site iroda, bank, fodrászat, park, templom és sok-sok szállásadó. Én a Lion’s Den-ben szálltam meg, 6 másik alvótárssal együtt egy szobában.
I left later than I planned, because in the morning I was on the Internet and reading news regarding to the tsunami. I was a bit worried about it, but then after all I decided to go, because the Coromandel Peninsula seemed safe to me.
My first accommodation was in Coromandel Town, where again there were some trouble with the booking, as there was a motorbike racing/meeting in town on that weekend. Anyway, nice place, but somehow I felt like I was in a modern western film. By the way I would call it a small village rather than town… The high street had several tiny roads, but there was everything there what it needed: post office, grocery store, police station, fire station, school, restaurants, pubs, i-site office, bank, shops, park, church and lots of accommodations. I stayed at the Lion’s Den with 6 other people together in one room.
Később lementem a tengerpartra és csak élveztem a napsütést meg a tenger moraját. Nem volt kedvem mozdulni sem onnan. Csendes, nyugodt és békés volt minden.
És mivel gondoltam az otthoniakra is, hát íme: 🙂
Later on I went down to the beach and just enjoyed the sunshine and how the sea roared. I did not even feel like moving from there. All was quiet, calm and peaceful.
And I thought of the people back home as well, so here it is: 🙂
Aztán mégiscsak útnak indultam, nem tétlenkedhet tovább az ember lánya… A 309-es út onnan kapta a nevét, hogy régen 3 óra és 9 percig tartott az út lovaskocsival Coromandel város és Whitianga között. Ma pedig csupa-csupa jó móka vár itt a Whitianga-ba utazókra, akár egy egész napot is el lehetne itt tölteni.
Then I set off after all, because the man’s daughter was not allowed to be inactive anymore… The 309 Road got its name from the time it used to take to travel by horse-drawn coach between Whitianga and Coromandel town – 3 hours and 9 minutes. Today it can easily keep you occupied for a day on your way to Whitianga.
1. Coromandel Mussel Kitchen
Egy étterem, ahol kagylóból készült finomságokat lehet enni, hazavinni és csodálni a szakácsokat, miközben készítik az ételt.
A restaurant which has a great menu full of mussel dishes and you can eat it there or take it home or just watch them being prepared.
2. Stuart & The Wild Pigs
Egy nevezetű úriember ad otthont száznál is több vadmalacnak (vaddisznónak) és mindenféle más állatnak. Azt elmondhatom, hogy ezek a vaddisznók a legbarátságosabb teremtmények a farmon.
Stuart’s place is home over one hundred wild pigs and some other animals. I can say that the wild pigs are the friendliest creatures on the farm.
Egy nagy park, ahol mindenféle vicces dolgot lehet művelni vízzel és újrahasznosított lim-lomból készült találmányokkal. Fantasztikus! És jó móka 🙂
A huge park filled with all sorts of funny things and weird water interventions all made from recycled bits and bobs. Fantastic! And really good fun 🙂
4. Castle Rock
Egy 2,5 órás séta egy sziklához, ahonnan (állítólag) meseszép a kilátás. Sajnos én túl sok időt töltöttem a waterworks-nél, így erre nem maradt idő.
A 2.5-hour walk to the Castle Rock and it’s a popular look-out point, which (as I heard) has a fabulous view. Unfortunately I spent too much time at The Waterworks, so I did not have time to do it.
5. Waiau Falls
Egy gyönyörű vízesés.

6. Kauri Trees
Hatalmas kauri fák egy erdőben.

7. Egan Park
Piknikező park.
Picnic area.
8. 309 Honey Shop
Andrew és Sue (méhészek) mézboltja, ahol Új-Zéland híres Manuka mézét lehet megvásárolni.
