This picture was taken long time ago (my hair was still long) in Christchurch in England, which is twinned with Christchurch in New Zealand and also with Tatabánya in Hungary. I have been a big dreamer, and look at me now … Here I am ! 🙂
Ez a kép nagyon régen készült (még hosszú a hajam), az angliai Christchurch-ben, ami testvérváros az új-zélandi Christchurch-csel és Tatabányával. Már akkor is nagy álmodozó voltam, és lám-lám… Hát mégis itt vagyok! 🙂
The flight from Auckland to Christchurch “flew” by, perhaps because I had a little chat with the couple sitting next to me. They have just had a cruise trip and now heading home, back to Christchurch. Before landing I quickly reposition myself to the other side, where a gentleman was sitting, because I wanted to take some photos of Christchurch, but I only saw this (at least now I know why New Zealand is called “The Land of the Long White Cloud) – and the rain was pouring:
Az út Aucklandtól idáig nagyon gyorsan „elrepült”, talán azért, mert szóba elegyedtem a mellettem ülő házaspárral, akik épp egy hajóútról tartottak hazafelé. Landolás előtt gyorsan átültem a másik oldalra, ahol csak egy úriember ült, mert fotókat akartam készíteni Christchurch-ről, de csak ezt láttam (legalább már tudom miért hívják Új-Zélandot a Nagy Fehér Felhő Szigetének) – az eső pedig szakadt:
(By the way this gentleman lives 5.5 hours away from Auckland, he has to drive to the airport and takes a 1.5 hour-long flight to Christchurch, further 2.5 hour-drive to his workplace, three times a week. What is his job? He is an architect and designs hospitals.)
(Érdekességképpen jegyzem meg, hogy ez az illető lakóhelyétől 5.5 órát kocsikázik az aucklandi reptérre, majd 1.5 óra repülőút Christchurch-be, további 2.5 óra a munkahelyére, heti háromszor. Hogy mi a szakmája? Kórházakat tervez.)
After landing, I had to call the car rental company. I knew that the company was situated about 4-5 minutes away from the airport, yet it took them more than an hour to pick me up, however I called them three times. At the office I had to wait another 2 hours, despite the fact that theoretically it was all booked on the Internet. After three hours waiting I finally got this Sirion. I couldn’t wait to go sightseeing.
Leszállás után értesíteni kellett a céget telefonon, ahonnan a kisautómat bérelem, hogy megérkeztem. Tudtam, hogy a cég kb 4-5 perc kocsiútra van a reptérről, mégis több, mint egy órát kellett várnom rájuk. Háromszor hívtam fel őket telefonon. A cégnél megint sorban állás volt annak ellenére, hogy elméletileg mindent az interneten foglaltam. Összesen 3 órát kellett várni, hogy végre beleülhessek ebbe a Sirion-ba. Alig vártam, hogy mehessek várost nézni.
In the past Christchurch was famous for its Cathedral and its museum. Today it’s famous for its earthquakes. Very sad. I remember well the photos in the newspaper (last year), horrible pictures. The cityscape is still filled with sadness, but the good news is that the city council has been working hard to destroy the unsafe buildings and build new ones instead.
Christchurch régen a katedrálisáról és a múzeumáról volt híres. Ma a földrengéseiről. És ez nagyon szomorú. Jól emlékszem a tavalyi újságból a fotókra, borzalmas látvány volt. A város képe ma is szomorúsággal tölt el, de a jó hír az, hogy a városvezetés azon dolgozik, hogy szebbé varázsolja a lerombolt városképet.
I must say that the Canterbury Museum is amazing! I bet there are lots of visitors there every day. I liked this table the most, because it shows a map of Christchurch city centre.
El kell mondanom, hogy a Canterbury Múzeum lenyűgöző! Szerintem ma is sok látogatót vonz. Nekem legjobban ez az asztal tetszett, aminek a lapján Christchurch belvárosának térképe látható.
In the afternoon I still had a little bit of time so I went to the “Sign of the Kiwi” to see if I can find some surprise there :-), but all I saw were rain and fog. On a sunny/clear day you can see the sea from there, but I only saw this:
Délután még gyorsan elmentem a „Sign of the Kiwi”-hez, hátha találok ott valami meglepetést :-), de kellemes meglepetés helyett csak további eső és köd volt. Állítólag jó időben lehet látni onnan a tengert is, de én csak ezt láttam:
I was invited for dinner to C’s parents’ house. Warm welcome, lovely people, delicious supper and nice chat. Spending the night here.
Vacsorára C szüleihez voltam hivatalos. Meleg fogadtatás, kedves emberek, finom kaja és kellemes beszélgetések. Ma este itt vendégeskedem.
